How Neoclassicism Rejected Rococo by Reviving Classical Ideas in the 18th Century

Throughout history, art movements have been created in response to their predecessors. So, in the 18th century, while the extravagance of Rococo and Baroque art were still thriving in Europe, another style was born with very different values. Established in the mid 1700s, the Neoclassical movement is defined by an interest in classical (i.e. Roman and Ancient Greece) aesthetics, principles, and subject matter.

Photographer Captures the Candy-Colored Beauty of a Pink Lagoon in Australia

We're used to seeing sparkling blue, green, and crystal waters, but sometimes, nature throws a curveball. Located on the west coast of Australia is a candy-colored body of water called Hutt Lagoon. It is a saltwater lake that derives its pink color from the carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina, a food-coloring agent and source of vitamin A.

LEGO Foundation Donates $143 Million to Organizations That Help Early Childhood Development

Nearly 100 years after their invention, LEGO toys continue to be discovered and enjoyed by kids from around the world. Now, The LEGO Foundation is giving back to children for its 90th anniversary. LEGO CEO Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen wants to address a “global early childhood emergency” brought upon by the pandemic by donating $143 million to organizations that “make a positive impact on the youngest children anywhere in the world.
